NZ Style Curvettes - Trousers

So to me, trousers are basically pants that aren't jeans and aren't leggings.

Dictionary.com defines Trousers as:
  Also called pants. a usually loose-fitting outer garment for the lower part of the body, having individual leg portions that reach typically to the ankle but sometimes to any of various other points from the upper leg down.

I've never realised until this challenge that my wardrobe really lacks a selection of trousers. However I do have two pairs of black work style trousers which are an essential in any wardrobe!

These black trousers I'm wearing are by City Chic but I thrifted them probably around a year ago.

Black trousers are great for so many things. They look professional if they need to and can be dressed up or down.
I wore this outfit to drop some resumes around to stores so I looked well dressed and not too professional yet not too casual.

Spin the Pin - August '15

Below is the August pic released for iCurvy's Spin the Pina monthly challenge inviting budding Fashionistas (and Fashionmisters) to show off their own interpretation (the 'Spin') on a pic from Pinterest (the 'Pin').

For me, Augusts Spin the Pin is all about Graphic tees and Tutus!

My 'Yawn' tee is a recent cheap buy from Kmart. It's actually a nightie but when I saw it I had to have it to wear as a tee. And it suits me to a tee! Ha pun not intended but it works.
For anyone who doesn't know I have a sleeping disorder called Narcolepsy where I experience excessive daytime fatigue, hence why the 'Yawn' term suits me.

This is the recently released and mostly sold out Tea Folly Skirt by PhoSizzle.
blogged about this skirt hereDespite my love for the feel of this skirt as-it-is I wanted to make it feel and look a bit more tutuish for this challenge so I rolled it up at the waist to make it about half a foot shorter and added a tulle skirt underneath to make it a bit more poofy.

I looked for a month in opshops for something resembling a tutu, a tulle skirt or even just a normal skirt that would do the job of a petticoat under this Tea Folly Skirt but nothing. So I popped into The Variety Store (basically it's like a cheap Reject shop kinda shop but one that sells more party stuff and helium balloons etc.) and discovered they actually sold tutus for dress ups for $10! Now their largest size would not fit me but with the removal of the lining and some scissors I MADE it fit! LOL It was a bit of a hack job but it did what I wanted it to and made this skirt poof right out!

With the addition of these absolutely magnificent pink tassel earrings I think this outfit is pretty darn amazing! Im totally in love with it! This is without a doubt my fave Spin the Pin outfit I've created so far!!

• Pink tassle earrings || Opshopped for $2

NZ Style Curvettes -Rainy Day

Rain has never bothered me.
I'm not one of those girls that will cover their hair and run whenever there is a drop of water fall from the sky, mostly cause I rarely put any effort into my hair.
My issue is at the other end of the scale... Literally! Whenever it is rainy I will opt to wear a skirt with leggings (or tights) and knee high boots.

The reason for this is because of my height. I don't know my specific measurement but I'm pretty below average in the height department, well at least in the leg length department.

My pants are nearly always too long for me and I don't sew (or pay to get hems taken up) so whenever it rains and I wear pants they get saturated. I leave footprints that resemble some sort of animal and gather dirt over the bottom drenched part of my pants. And no it's not a good look at all!

Outfit details:
• Invincible winner hi-lo knit || Harlow || bought with a voucher I won!!
• Cardigan || Opshopped
• skirt || Vigorella || Opshopped
• Leggings || Kmart || $7
• Wedged boots || Autograph || $100 roughly
• Stretch calf boots || Big W || $30

NZ Style Curvettes - Animal Print

NZ Style Curvettes - Animal Print

Meagan from thisismeagankerr.com has been very gracious and let us Aussies join in on her NZ Style Curvettes fashion photo challenge. And I am so thankful! Since Aussie Curves is no longer in operation, I would be totally lost without my weekly fashion challenge!

This week (the second week) of NZ Style Curvettes is the challenge theme Animal Print.

Animal Print has never really been my most favourite thing. I think some TVshows in the past must have made me associate it with trashy obnoxious female characters and I don't think I've really ever got over that. Despite that I still own and wear Animal print on the odd occasion.

I opshopped this dress a while ago and haven't yet worn it. I still can't decide if I like it or not. It has three levels of patterns on it, 2 of which are animal print, and I think it might be that pattern clash that I struggle to get my head around!

My most favourite part of this outfit is my earrings! I'm totally loving double sided earrings, even though I get a bit paranoid I'm going to lose a side. I bought these double sided bone earrings from an op shop last week for $4 and I just love them! They totally make me think of the Flintstones! Maybe thats why I love them!!

Outfit details:
• Double sided bone studs || Opshopped for $4
• Animal print tunic || Autograph || Opshopped for $3.50
• Belt || Taking Shape 14+ || $3 at Abbotsford TS14+ clearance centre.
• Black leggings || Now by Kmart || $7
• Black cardigan || Barkins || Opshopped in a '$5 bag of clothes' sale
• Boots || Unnui || Opshopped for $2

PhoSizzle - The Lollygaggers

When I first heard Phosizzle was doing more extended sizing I was pretty happy and then when I saw sneak peaks of bits and pieces on their Instagram I was so pumped and excited to see the whole lollygaggers mini range.

However I think I had already decided before everything was officially out that I wanted the hot pink Folly tea skirt and the button fly flares.
Having read that there was one available in some sizes I made sure I was super quick to obtain what I desperately wanted!

Skinny jeans are not my thing. I love a good bootcut jean. When I see flares I just think of them as super bootcut so that helps explain part of my lust for these Phosizzle jeans.
I've been quite impressed by the quality of these jeans and also the consistency with sizing is super impressive too! It's always hard shopping online when a brand isn't sized the same over different items and I rarely will return anything. So it's nice to know that when I buy something from Phosizzle again, that it will fit because they clearly put alot of thought and effort into that.

Now I must inform you all that I'm pretty short so (as the above pic shows) these are a few inches too long for me at the moment. Usually I would just wear them into the ground but I definitely like these too much to do that! So even though I really really want to wear them out and about I'm trying that thing apparently called "self-control" to make sure I don't impulsively wear them until I get them to a tailor... Good motivation to get them taken up though!

One thing I love about these jeans is the pockets. The only right way to describe  these pockets in my mind is as 'Phosizzle pockets'.
I'm a back pocket girl so I keep going to put my hands in my back pockets but when I find none I still get that pleasant little voice in my head saying "oh yeah I've got cute front ones!"

The Folly Tea Skirt

This skirt. Well where do I start?
The colour. Im not a huge pink girl but if I was going to choose any shade of pink it would definitely be this shade of hot pink. Make this same skirt in black (hint hint Jacqui!) and it would sell like hotcakes I reckon! It would be a staple of mine without a doubt. But as for the pink it will still get some good wear from me.

I initially wasn't really sure what to wear with this. I didn't want to look too prissy or girly so I paired it with a denim vest to give it a little bit more of a rock punk feel but still wore heels so it didn't look too grunge.

The sizing. Just like the sizing of the Button Fly Flares, the sizing of the skirt is very consistent aswell when compared to the other Phosizzle items I have. Which makes shopping online with Phosizzle so much easier! Yay!

The material. Now I know it was said somewhere that there was a limited amount of skirts because it was the end of the roll but OMG this skirt feels like heaven on! I didn't want to take it off! Only reason I did was because I had to take some pics of the button fly flares! Now excuse me whilst I go change back into it!

Aussie Curves 3.0 - Challenge Reflection : The Finale

Aussie Curves 3.0, the third year of Aussie Curves photo challenges and probably the last.

I've really loved doing these challenges! It's given me something to look forward to every week! It's been a way to challenge myself in the area I'm interested in (Fashion) and to help myself grow and develop in that area. Plus there's the fact that I love dressing up!

There are soo many outfits I love! It was difficult but I narrowed my most favourite down to just a few...

I loved Double denim. Usually the thought of DD would make me cringe but now Im going to associate it with this outfit cause I just love it!

Bridal
Bridal was sad for me but I loved it and wouldn't change a thing if I did it again!

Sheer was fun and innovative! It almost felt like I was wearing a tutu!

Where to now?
Well I'm not really sure. There is iCurvy's Spin the Pin challenge once a month m that I will play along with but I'd like to do something more frequent than once a month so I'm thinking I might pretend to be a Kiwi for a while and join This is Meagan Kerr : NZ Style Curvettes Challenge cause that looks pretty cool.

What have I learnt?

I've learnt the need to support small businesses especially Australian business's and I have done my fair share of that in the last 6 months but will be continuing to do that for sure!
And mostly I've learnt about how much I love fashion, yes fashion is my passion. Because of my size I never really felt I was allowed to be into fashion but that was such wrong and stupid thinking!
The sky is not the limit!
I recently saw a video (which I can't seem to find again sorry) of a makeup artist who couldn't use her hands because of a disability so she used her mouth! Why should I let my size stop me having an interest in fashion? Yes I shouldn't let it! So I'm looking into doing a personal stylist course in the next few months.

However this is me signing off from Aussie Curves forever! Until our next adventure...
