Spin the Pin - December '15/January '16

Spin the Pin is an Instagram Fashion challenge where the host, iCurvy chooses a 'PIN' of an outfit from Pinterest to which we put our own 'SPIN' on; our own take on the outfit; being inspired by any of its features, colours, traits etc etc.

The Outfit for this month (and for the previous month of December) is this cute blush and gold number worn by Nadia Abhoulhosn. See Nadia's post about this outfit here.

And my SPIN.

Initially I really struggled with how to spin the original outfit my own way. I usually make a bit of a list of what I see and I couldn't see past the pastel, blush coloured coat and the gold.

After quite some time thinking it just sort of clicked that gold was metallic, and the original outfit was all fairly similar colours, almost monochrome... So I went with that; Metallic and Monchrome (or at least similar colours).

Metallic is easy for me because I only have one item of metallic clothing and that is this cute shiny skirt by Huudaverti (read my review of this skirt) that has an amazingly soft, not to mention red inner lining!

Having the skirt sorted, in turn sorted the colour I was to use. Process of Elimination.
So from that I pulled together this outfit.
And I quite like it!

Spin The Pin - November '15

The photo or PIN, to take inspiration from this month and SPIN my own way was this gorgeous outfit below by Folake at StyleLaundry.

I see a bright, bold colour with a clear link between the top and bottom pieces through the colouring. And I also can't help but see an amazing, flowing long skirt.

I knew instantly that I wanted to wear a long sheer skirt I recently opshopped but had to figure out how to connect the top and bottom with bright colours.

So I decided to use a green peplum and link it to the bottom half by wearing a shorter green skirt under my long sheer black skirt.
Added my matching green clutch and a bit of lippy and there you have out! My SPIN inspired by the PIN!

Outfit Details:
• Green peplum || City Chic || Opshopped for $3
• Black belt || Off a City Chic dress
• Green skirt || Avella || Opshopped for $7.25
• Black sheer pleated maxi skirt || Lovers || Opshopped for $2
• Green clutch || Opshopped for $3
• Black heels || Target || Opshopped for $3
• Black tassel earrings || Opshopped for $3

Spin The Pin - October '15

This months Spin the Pin challenge has definitely been the most challenging so far! The PIN is from A Dapper Chick's blog. Featuring...well..just that! A very dapper looking chick.

Jo from iCurvy encouraged more of putting a SPIN on this Dapper chicks outfit rather than recreating it saying:
"Maybe it's statement socks, or the brilliant turquoise colour of the blazer, maybe you'll take inspiration from Men's wear for women - or add some tailoring to your outfit, maybe it's the bright pops of colour, or the flower button hole... The challenge is not to recreate the outfit - but let it inspire you and SPIN it your own way".

Well I struggled. First I started with my turquoise cardi which I really ought to get rid of cause it is clearly too small for me but I just love it too much! I thought I could wear it with a white shirt underneath; the shirt collar adding a little hint of menswear and the turquoise cardi to go with it. These two worked well together but I couldn't, for the life of me, find anything I liked to wear with it on the bottom half.

First I tried a mix with pink.
I actually didn't mind this combination too much! However I did not like the shoes with the rest of the outfit. I'm quite a matchy matchy person and the denim colour blue of the wedges just didn't sit right with me.

Then denim. Blue and blue go right?
After the colour of shoes not matching with the previous outfit, I decided to try a denim skirt. I'm not sure if it's the shape of the skirt or not but this didn't sit right with me either.

Yes, I can be quite picky with my outfits. It needs to feel right to me. Whatever "right" is...

Eventually I decided to wear something all together different.
I decided to take the Blazer part of the PIN and use that. This is the only blazer I own and I'm about to put it up for sale because it's a tad too small. Until now I hadn't worn it at all so I thought I may aswell give it a run before I sell it off...
I'm nice to my clothes like that!

Spin the Pin - September '15

I've been really loving these Spin the Pin challenges. At first I was a bit hesitant with some of the pins, thinking "aw It's not my style" but now I'm really loving it. I love how it pushes me out of my comfort zone, out of the style I usually stick to.
Adapting the outfit using my own existing clothing helps integrate my style into the outfit and it's helping me see older items of clothing in a new light; giving me ideas of how else I could wear it and what else I could wear it with. All of a sudden my wardrobe seems so much bigger!

This months spin (Link up Hereto me screamed double denim (in a lighter denim shade) with a feminine touch of lace, fur and/or stripes & heels.
Also note they had no black in their outfits which I tend to overuse anyway as it's an easy neutral for me, so that was a challenge for me.

I actually really liked what I ended up putting together. Yes it is very similar to outfits in the Pin but thats ok because I can see myself wearing it alot. Its more of a feminine look than I usually do which is probably because of the nude wedges but it looks good on me.

I can't stand denim against denim so the denim vest helped achieve that Double denim look without it looking to 90's and very subtly underneath my denim vest is a sheer white vest with bits of lace just to help get another texture in there and to help break up the denim on denim.

I like the striped top I have on. Its not a plain old stripes tee, it has a vertical line down the middle which I imagine would help elongate my torso and help draw the eye up and down making me appear slightly taller. I do, however, think it makes my boobs look big but in reality they are so I really don't mind.

Don't forget to keep an eye out on ICurvy's blog as she has been posting her fave spins on her blog in a spin the pin hall of fame blog post. It is really nice to see how Jo and other babes interpret the pin so make sure you check them out (and comment of course) via the September link up post here

• Denim vest || Autograph || Opshopped for $1
• Grind blue bootleg jeans || City Chic || On sale for $15

Spin the Pin - August '15

Below is the August pic released for iCurvy's Spin the Pina monthly challenge inviting budding Fashionistas (and Fashionmisters) to show off their own interpretation (the 'Spin') on a pic from Pinterest (the 'Pin').

For me, Augusts Spin the Pin is all about Graphic tees and Tutus!

My 'Yawn' tee is a recent cheap buy from Kmart. It's actually a nightie but when I saw it I had to have it to wear as a tee. And it suits me to a tee! Ha pun not intended but it works.
For anyone who doesn't know I have a sleeping disorder called Narcolepsy where I experience excessive daytime fatigue, hence why the 'Yawn' term suits me.

This is the recently released and mostly sold out Tea Folly Skirt by PhoSizzle.
blogged about this skirt hereDespite my love for the feel of this skirt as-it-is I wanted to make it feel and look a bit more tutuish for this challenge so I rolled it up at the waist to make it about half a foot shorter and added a tulle skirt underneath to make it a bit more poofy.

I looked for a month in opshops for something resembling a tutu, a tulle skirt or even just a normal skirt that would do the job of a petticoat under this Tea Folly Skirt but nothing. So I popped into The Variety Store (basically it's like a cheap Reject shop kinda shop but one that sells more party stuff and helium balloons etc.) and discovered they actually sold tutus for dress ups for $10! Now their largest size would not fit me but with the removal of the lining and some scissors I MADE it fit! LOL It was a bit of a hack job but it did what I wanted it to and made this skirt poof right out!

With the addition of these absolutely magnificent pink tassel earrings I think this outfit is pretty darn amazing! Im totally in love with it! This is without a doubt my fave Spin the Pin outfit I've created so far!!
